Song of the Night: “Three Questions”

now_heres_my_plan“Three Questions” is the penultimate song on Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s 2003 album, Master and Everyone, and the closing song on 2012’s Now Here’s My Plan. The latter is an EP of Oldham again covering some of his older tunes, this time with Emmett Kelly, Angel Olsen, and a few of the other musicians he recorded with on Wolfroy Goes to Town. I’m late coming to Now Here’s My Plan, but it’s the first album of his that’s stuck with me since Chijimi, which is now close to four years old.

One of my favorite Oldham songs, Angel Olsen’s singing on this newer version of “Three Questions” gives it the little extra punch it needs to be great. I like the others too, especially the bouncier take on “I See a Darkness,” but this is the one I keep bringing the needle to:
